EAST GALLERY - Marilyn Jackson, Target

Artist Statement

Hand-knitted sweaters represent human targets of the current federal administration. Sweaters, usually the epitome of cozy comfort, here powerfully and poignantly portray the violence and cruelty of policies of the regime.

Artist Bio

Marilyn has lived most of her life in Eastern Washington. As a girl, she loved drawing and needlework. In the 1980s, as a fiber artist, Marilyn created large, textual, portraits using needlepoint as a medium. In 1992, when she completed her formal training in fine art with a B. A. from Eastern Washington University, she changed her main art medium to drawing. The influence of her previous work in fiber art can be seen in the intricacy of detail and pattern in her drawings. With her current exhibition, Target, Marilyn goes back to her fiber art roots, this time using knitting as her medium. As in much of her work, she uses this medium for political commentary.

WEST GALLERY - Lena J. Lopez Schindler, Sidetracks

Artist Statement

The paintings in this exhibition are all recent paintings, connected only by the similar ground on which the marks, shapes and colors are made. While the paintings were not completed with a particular subject matter, or a theme to be explored, they do coalesce with related marks and approaches, while wanting to be completely free with regards to my materials to fall gracefully into the time honored traditions of experimentation and reacting to surface changes in the painting.  While that was the intention, to liberate myself of habit, certain tendencies naturally arose.  The fondness of watersoluble materials, transparencies and additional found materials.  I want to thank the Saranac Art Projects for their commitment to free expression in visual art.  The dialogue among artists and their shared artworks provides an opportunity to exhibit work that viewers may not see in other galleries or museums.
