Ann Porter

Bio

Ann Porter is a contemporary artist who works in a variety of media using a broad range of materials. Her work explores the complications involved in communication, sometimes between human beings and the natural world, sometimes between human beings and the worlds they have constructed. Her most recent work, uses rope, vinyl, and painted wood to explore the relationship between physical shape and content.

 Porter wasProfessor in the Art Department at Black Hills State University from the fall of 2003 until the spring of 2018. She has taught a broad range of classes, including Art History. Art and Technology, Drawing, Sculpture, and Two-Dimensional Design. 

 She earned her BA at Reed College in Portland Oregon in 1975, and her MFA in sculpture at Washington State University in 2002.  Ann has also taught at North Idaho College, Washington State University and was a commercial art director and illustrator.  She was also a freelance designer in the areas of jewelry, printing, illustration, as well as screen-printing and embroidery.  She has had commercial clients including the Central Park Zoo, Yellowstone National Park, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Grand Old Opry, and the Lawrence Welk Show.

V stands for:

Venus, Volcano, Versus.

In France, la Vie is life, but in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, the V sign means

Up Yours.

In addition, it can mean:

Victory, Vagina, Volume, Vanadium, or Five.

Voltage, Velocity, Vendetta.

 Peace.
