ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Over 20,000 children have died in Gaza during the current conflict.

This installation remembers the children under one year old who died as of February 2, 2024.*

I have written their names in silver ink near the bottom of one inch wide vinyl strips. Below that, I tied a piece of vesicular lava, the kind that results from explosive volcanic eruptions. Finally, I built a raised scaffolding to suspend the finished strips so that names and the lava hang at the height of a young child.

There are 257 names, a small fraction of the total.
